Nintendo Consoles

I like collecting old Nintendo systems and repairing them, giving them a new life. I have a collection of old Gameboys and 3DS’s that I have repaired and modded in various ways.

Recently I have been having a ton of fun repairing old Nintendo consoles, mostly 3DS’s. This mostly consists of replacing parts, however I have also tried some more advanced repairs such as replacing a zif connector. My micro soldering skills aren’t that high yet, but I am slowly improving and learning new techniques. In particular the youtuber nanofix has been a great source of information. On top of that I have also replaced screens on Gameboy Advances, for example with a more modern IPS screen, which breaths new life into these old consoles.

On top of fixing consoles I also like homebrewing them, which is the process of installing custom software on the console. This allows me to run emulators and other homebrew applications on the console, giving it a new life and allowing me to do things that were not possible with the original software! For example the Pretendo team has created a replacement for the now-dead Nintendo 3DS game servers, allowing you to still play online games on your 3DS, even though the original servers have been shut down.
